Three methods of registering title to land now exist in the Commonwealth Caribbean. These methods are deed registration, reigstration of title under the Torrens system, and registration of title under the English system. In many of the jurisdictions two of these methods exist side by side and in a period of transition all three methods may exist simultaneously. The registration of deeds may be described as a formal and public recognition of the registration of a document which has been signed by private parties as evidence of an agreement made between them; and it was introduced into the region at the time of the introduction of the general laws of the parent state.
