Automated registration of title to land : considerations and consequences from the use of electronic deeds

This is the first of two presentations from Registers of Scotland (RoS). Both presentations relate to the e-registration system we have been developing known as Automated Registration of Title to Land ARTL for short. This first presentation aims to achieve two purposes. To start it will provide some general background on ARTL however the main focus of this presentation is on the role of the electronic deed within ARTL. The many considerations and consequences that flow from the use of electronic deeds within the Scottish automated system of registration will be explained. The second presentation from RoS will take a detailed look at one of the key enablers of the electronic deed, namely the legal authentication of the electronic deed by means of a digital certificate containing a digital signature.
