Basic registers for geo-information

Besemer, Jaap ... [et al.]

In the public administration area in the Netherlands, the idea has developed to create basic registers. Under this concept, basic registers are registers of personal data, data concerning immovable or movable property and similar data, which are essential for the public sector to function properly. In the Dutch government's plans, data, which is part of a basic register, will be collected just once from individuals or businesses. The most appropriate public agency for the type of data in question will be responsible for its administration. Furthermore, use of this data will be mandatory throughout the entire government sector. After a start-up period of more than 10 years, the plans now seem to be getting somewhere. The Dutch government has announced the development of nine basic registers for the time being, which will pertain partly to persons, partly to immovable property, partly to vehicles and partly to financial matters.
