BIM and cost estmating

Lovegrove, Simon

BIM refers to the process of virtual Building Information Modelling based on digital information exchange. In addition to 2D and 3D graphics, CAD software which supports BIM uses a database driven library of intelligentt objects to build a central digital model of the building which can be shared amongst the project team to allow a collaborative integrated approach to building design. CostXX is unique estimating software which is able to view these CAD files and utilise the database information to automatically generate quantities. This paper will show how Estimators and Quantity Surveyors can use this new technology to leverage better drawing file intelligence to improve productivity.
