Cadastral reform in the northern territory

Menzies, Trevor

Significant benefits have been achieved in the management of cadastral data through the development and implementation of the Northern Territory Land Information System (NTLIS). The greatest improvement has been achieved in the title registration system which is now fully integrated into the NTLIS. The least change has occurred in the survey system which is the fornt-end of the title registration system and the source of data for the cadastral data base of the NTLIS. A strategy has been adopted and resources allocated to integrate the various components of the survey system into the NTLIS environment. This will lead to the development of a co-ordinated cadastre based upon the proposed Geocentric Datum of Australia. It is intended that the infrastructure that needs to be developed to achieve this objective will form the basis of a legal co-ordinated cadastre in the future.
