Driving innovation with knowledge management

Othman, Roznita

This paper highlights the need for organisations to effectively create, manage and leverage their knowledge to support the innovation processes. The evolution of knowledge from one form to another and from one level to another has great influence on innovation advancements. Knowledge Management (KM) is not about getting work done more efficiently and effectively but is very much related to innovativeness and competitiveness sustainability. KM efforts should, thus, not only be restricted to learning and finding ways to solve problems but also need to focus on improving knowledge sharing that can lead to new ideas and on developing knowledge by intensifying learning involvement of the employees. Top management must ensure the learning activities of the organisation incorporate knowledge creation and a higher degree of creative thinking to enhance the skills and motivation level of their employees to achieve breakthroughs and quantum leaps.
