E-Government and E-land administration : as an example : the Netherlands

Molen, Paul van der and Martin Wubbe

E-Government, defined as the use of information and communication technologies to improve the activities of public sector organisations, of course impacts on the strategy and operations of our Agency. This document explains how. To realize e-government, we believe three aspects are at stake. 1. If the government wants to safeguard the availability of, access to and use of land information for society, it should facilitate a (spatial) data infrastructure. 2. If the government wants people to use the facilities, it should facilitate electronic legal and economic transactions and participation. 3. If we, as data suppliers, want to respond to the needs of society, i.c. to deliver quality electronic information and services, we should better organize the availability of and access to our datasets.
