Empowerment of the poor in Kenya

Nabutola, Wafula

Poverty is something that people believe they can easily distinguish. UN Habitatts Report, Urbanization and Trends and Forces Shaping Slumss states: in fact the concept is difficult to define. poverty is often defined in terms of household income alone for example, the proportion of households who are earning less than what is needed to afford a baskett of basic necessities, living on less than US$ One or US$ Two a dayy. Inadequate income leads to inadequate consumption of necessities including food and, often, safe and sufficient water; often problems of indebtedness, with debt repayments significantly reducing income available for necessities.
