Sutrisno, Dewayany

Human interaction with the nature of the ecosystem may become the pressure to the sustainable environment, especially if it is dealing with the limited area such as mangrove ecosystem. Therefore, to assess the important of mangrove ecosystem from both economic and ecological perspectives, it is necessary to set a planning toward implementing sustainable management. Ecosystem-based management requires responsible actions to ensure human benefits without risking adverse changes in ecosystem. In this case, the environmental accounting is become an important tool for that such need. Related to the study, islands that locate at Tomini Bay Indonesia were selected as study area. These islands have been planned as conservation area but have also been developed as tourism object and fisheries activities. Based on the environmental accounting assessment, the interaction of the traditional people with the nature has insignificant effect. It cause only as much as 0.3 % degradation for 9 (nine) years of observations. This indicates that the area has been managed in environmental manners in facilitating both of tourism and local people need.
