Evaluation of a large scale LIS project in SLovenia
Ivacic, Matjaz
In this paper the present situation in the field of GIS/LIS in SLovenia is described. The number of users, the volume of the data, the amount of hardware and software equipment is rapidly increasing. On the other hand, we cannot find a complex application, such as a land cadastre, a municipal or utility information system, that has passed the implementation period and works successfully, with some benefits. In 1991 a project was started for the establishment of a large scale topographic database for LIS use. Thsi very ambitious project has been stopped because of size, and the costs after the prototype was finished. The nwe experiences are now used in different projects, but the size and accuracy are now smaller. The author evaluates the results of the large scale LIS from both positive and negative aspects.
