Evolution of land registration and cadastre : case study: Austria

Twaroch, Ch. & Muggenhuber, G.

Land is an important resource for the sustainable development of an economy. Therefore land administration has a long history in Central Europe as it is a dense population area. Cadastre and Land Registration are two main factors of such Land Administration Systems (LAS). Even when a LAS seems to be well tuned, there are contradictions to be discussed and principles which are given different priorities in each country. On one hand these principles predetermine the usage for different customers. On the other hand, the legal framework defines ownership versus public interests like on land use and environmental data. These public restrictions on ownership can be managed by a LAS.
