Exploring the cadastre

Greulich, G.H.

With abstracts in English, German and French.

Recognizing the need to know more about the land has caused two major studies in the United States: the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is searching for a better way to transfer land ownership without new surveys, and the National Academy of Sciences is exploring the feasibility of a national network of multipurpose cadastres. Meanwhile, cadastral pilot projects are underway. Certain counties and cities within several states have begun to create a comprehensive computer-based LRIS (Land Record and Information System). Three prototypes classes of local cadastres are designed to overcome current problems in a gradual way and at minimum cost. The geographic data base and linkage mechanisms are discussed.
