From Robert Richard Torrens to strata title : Australia 1857 to the present

The paper traces the development of the Torrens Title system of land registration throughout Australia and the impact it has had on the international scene. It also traces the evolution and development of the Strata Title (for apartments, offices etc.) The Torrens system was the first land title system whereby the Government took responsibility for registration and validating land title. The Strata Title system simply creates an air space title within a building on two tiers of definition by statute and by plan.
