Geomatics technologists training in developing countries and the example of Senegal

Tessler, Pierre

In the field of geomatics, many developing countries have competent university resources i.e., masterrs and doctoral graduates who received training abroad at considerable expense. That being said, these specialists do not always have the requisite technical staff to support them in the performance of their tasks. When this kind of situation occurs, technical operations are performed either by overqualified staff or by employees who do not have the appropriate schooling or training. The end result is to reduce the ability to carry out projects and to boost costs. And yet, with the appropriate support and guidance, these countries could develop technical training programs truly suited to their needs. It is just this type of guidance that the geomatics department of the Colllge ddenseignement ggnnral et professionnel (CCgep) Limoilou has been making available to developing countries.
