Bamamen Bisil

Dating back to 1934, artisanal gold mining is the most common activity practiced by the population in the eastern region of Cameroon. For example, in the town of Kambélé in Eastern Cameroon, 65.9% of the working population are gold panners.. The figures are almost the same in the other localities in the region. With more than half of the working population in the sector and an average monthly income of around 72,000 to 96,000 CFA francs on the basis of a worker's flat daily wage of between 3,000 and 4,000 CFA francs (around five Euros), artisanal gold mining, along with agriculture, is the main source of income for people in the Eastern region.
