Introduction d'un livre foncier en France

Chabrier, M.

Contrary to most of the other big nations, France has no land register. Consequently the registration and transcription of the various real property rights create a permanent legal and technical uncertainty. This gives rise to grave errors, disputes and legal proceedings. For more than a century there have been numerous reforms aiming at a perfection of the current system. The latest effort to reform the system was made in 1955, by a decree which introduced a new system of real estate registration by establishing the so-called 'Fichier Immobilier'. This system is a compromise between a land register and a system without any real public character, therefore it is deficient.
