Introduction of a cadastral system in Byellorussia (Belarus)

Kaufmann, JJrg

Based on a demand of the Belarus government and on the decision of the Swiss government to provide financial and technical assistance to the countries of the GIS in transition, a pilot project for the implementation of a cadastral system was started in March 1994. The district of Soligorsk, a potassium mining area with 2250 km2, shall be surveyed and modelled in GIS, so that information about the real situation, the administrative units, the private property, the soil quality and the environmental impacts of the Tchernobyl accident can be made avalable. All the problems of project management, use of modern equipment, cooperation of several authorities, exploitation of information and quality control shall be tested and documented within the pilot project. The Belarus specialists shall thus be enabled to continue the work to implement an republic-wide cadastral system.
