This paper will present the approach to producing the Best Practice Guidelines and preliminary results of this investigation, identifying the key lessons learned in key apsects of the case studies, by a working group within FIG Commission 3. This working group has been investigating how spatial informaiton and knowledge management can more effectively facilitate decision support in urban management in Africa.
