Land policies and responsible land governance

The critical role of sound land policies and responsible land governance in achieving sustainable economic development and transformation of society is a shared vision by several organizations. This is the case with the African Union Land Policy Initiative with its Framework and Guidelines on Land Policy in Africa, World Bank with its Land Governance Assessment Framework (LGAF), UN FAO with the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests (VG) This brief paper presents the vital role of the African Union Land Policy Initiative (LPI), as a regional initiative in contributing to the achievement of the goals and objectives of the global development agenda and it stresses the need and importance of forming partnerships and collaboration with global and other regional land initiatives.
