Kalms, Tommy

With abstracts in English, German and French.

The paper presents the author's view on the role of land registration and how it changes as Land Information Systems (LIS) are developed. Among the items covered is the technique for referencing the data. The status of land ownership records within the LIS, are discussed by looking at the possibilities of including the title records fully and of extracting information from them. Further, the mapping component of the land records and the procedures for cadastral information are analyzed as to their requirements within the LIS. The aspect of decentralizing the information system is exemplified and advantages/disadvantages are reviewed. The paper ends with some personal reflections on the future role of land registration and the coordination required for land informations systems.
