Land surveying bachelor program at the universtiy of Puerto Rico : a vision for success

In 1979 the University of Puerto Rico began offering a bachelor degree in Land Surveying and Topography at the Civil Engineering Department, since that time there has been 250 graduates from this program. The department changes its name to Civil Engineering and Surveying Department in the year 2000. The academic requirements of the program, a profile of the students, ongoing research projects, publications, and success stories will be presented in this paper. Since the year 2000 the Land Surveying and Topography Program started a partnership with the Instituto de Agrimensores del Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores de Puerto Ricoo with the purpose to increasing the enrollment of this program. Last August 2005 the enrollment for first year candidates was 105 students. The partnership is now focusing on retention. An overview of this partnership will also be presented.
