The concept of proprietary-based land informations systems (the multi-purpose cadastre concept) has gradually evolved in North America as a feasible and potentially attractive approach to providing various land registration and land information services. The evolution and current status of the concept is described in this report. A more detailed discussion of the Maritime Land Registration and Information Service, the pioneering program on the continent, is described in an appendix.
