Participation of Bulgarian surveyors in the life of FIG

The Union of Surveyors and Land Managers in Bulgaria is a member of FIG since 1959. The Union organized the ХVІІ Congress and the 50th Permanent Committee Meeting (1983) and hosted the 31st Permanent Committee Meeting (1964) in Sofia. The Union nominated for the period 1982-1985 five members of FIG Bureau - president, vice president, secretary general, treasurer, congress director. The Bulgarian Bureau organised and conducted the 46th and 51st Permanent Committee Meetings in The Hague (1982) and Tokyo (1984). Bulgaria has participated in 14 FIG congresses, has been the host of 5 international FIG symposia. It had two vice presidents during the Swiss Bureau (1979-1983) and the Canadian Bureau (1985-1987), as well as chairmen of technical commissions ІІ, V, VІ, VІІ and an auditor during Canadian Bureau. Bulgaria has had one Honorary President (1986) and has two Honorary Members (1988, 1999) of FIG. Sofia Congress received 1202 participants from 57 countries, 97 accompanying persons from 23 countries and about 1000 visitors by daily tickets. The nine technical commissions had 64 sessions with 349 papers. Forty-six companies, national member associations and universities participated in the exhibition and 1965 people joined technical visits and excursions.
