Real property market and real property taxation in Lithuania

Bagdonavicius, Arvydas

The real property market is regulated by the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania, the Civil Code, the Land Law and several other Laws and by-laws. The change of Article 47 of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania had a significant influence on the real property market. In summer 1996, the Lithuanian Parliament changed Article 47 of the Constitution and adopted a new constitutional law "On the Subject, Procedure, Terms and Conditions and Restrictions of th Acquisition of Ownership of Land Plots Provided for Article 47, Part 2 of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania". Under the provisions of the law, land may be acquired either by national or foreign subjects.
