Some methodical aspects of teaching spatial information systems within university programmes in geodesy and cartography
Mitsoav, Irena & Gaspar, Davorin
The paper focuses on the abuse of terms GIS and LIS and its negative consequences in teaching spatial information systems. It suggests to use the terms space, spatial information, spatial information systems instead of the vague and ambiguous geographic, area, territory, and the like. It claims that the use of proposed terms helps to clarify the situation in spatially oriented information systems, in sorting various classes of information systems and makes the development of study programmes in geography and cartography easier.
