Surveying and mapping legislation : lessons learnt
Williamson, Ian & Falzon, Katie
Working paper; No. 2. - References: p. 16-18.
This paper reviews the impact of cadastral surveying and mapping legislation to highlight important lessons and experiences which may be of interest to other countries embarking on cadastral reform. Relevant Australian legislation is discussed, such as the Surveyors Acts and Survey Coordination Acts, both of which play an important role in controlling the way surveyors operate within cadastral systems. Also reviewed is legislation covering land registration, planning and subdivisions, which controls the operation of land markets. In some countries such legislation establishes a licensing or registration system which controls the operation of all professional surveyors (not just cadastral), as is often also the case for engineers, lawyers and architects.
