Surveyors' role in spatial planning and development
Villikka, Markku
Land use planning and implementation of plans, or spatial planning and development as it is called in the FIG definition of surveyors and in the FIG commission structure, is one of the main pillars in the work of surveyors. The surveying profession is traditionally divided into technical and management disciplines like land management, land administration, valuation and spatial planning. In most of the over 110 FIG member countries the profession covers traditional technical skills like positioning, field surveying and mapping as well as management skills, at least cadastral works. Spatial planning can be considered as a part of land managment and administration.
