Riley, Mike

It is generally accepted that there is growing recognition of the need to consider buildings and built assets on the basis of whole-life performance. The issues associated with maintaining and enhancing a sustainable built environment demand specialist skills and input. Building Surveyors and Property Managers have the ability to add value to organizations through the application of specialist skills sets that include a detailed understanding of building performance in use. This includes a thorough understanding of technical, legislative and facilities management issues and processes. The potential role of the Building Surveyor/Property Manager will be considered from the perspective of adding value to client organizations by the adoption of sustainable practices, and the global context will be explained and related to current themes in the Malaysian property and construction sectors.
