In this paper, on the basis of features of the hydropower projects under planning and investigation stage, combination with the basic principle and processing method of precise point positioning GPS, we discuss the actual application of precise point positioning GPS in the planning stage of hydropower projects, including field observation, data processing method and Transformation of plane coordinates and elevation. It proves that this method is feasible.
