This paper traces the involvement of the FIG in one of its many initiatives with the United Nations (UN). First it identifies the role of the FIG in the 13th UN Regional Cartographic Conference (UNRCC) for Asia and the Pacific held in Beijing in 1994 where an invited paper from the FIG resulted in a resolution which in turn led to the joint UN-FIG Inter-Regional Meeting of Experts on the Cadastre held in Bogor, Indonesia, in March 1996.
