The professional surveyor's role in the Austrian boundary cadastre

Hoeflinger, E.

With abstracts in English, German and French.

The private-practising surveyor in Austria is a civil-engineer. The authorization of a civil engineer is conferred by the state, the basic requirements are a university degree, five years of practical experience and a further examination. The civil engineers are qualified for the issuing of public documents. The civil engineer in surveying practice is the engineer consultant for surveying. The land tax register of real estate was converted in 1968 into a legal boundary cadastre, in which the boundary coordinates are legally obligatory. With the Land Survey Law a division of functions was achieved between the state survey service and the engineer consultant. Whereas the Federal Office for Standardization, for Surveying and Mapping has the duty of establishing and maintaining the control net, the managing of boundary cadastre and the maps, the engineer consultants execute all boundary surveying for the real estate transactions. Their documents of plans are needed for the entry and the taking over of the plot in the property register and the boundary cadastre. The professional representation of the civil engineers and herewith the engineer consultants for surveying is the Board of Engineers, a public law corporation.
