The voluntary guidelines : supporting implementation

Hilton, Andrew, Paul Munro-Faure & David Palmer

The paper reports on progress on the international acceptance and endorsement of the Voluntary Guidelines on Responsible Governance of Tenure, originally endorsed by the Committee on World Food Security in May 2012. It describes the progress being made by FAO and its partners in developing and implementing a programme for making improved governance of tenure a reality. The objectives, nature and scope of FAOOs four year programme of support are outlined, and more detailed reporting is provided in relation to the five components dealing respectively with awareness raising, capacity development, support to countries, partnerships, and monitoring and evaluation. Funding and the availability of resources are referenced in the context of FAOOs experience of rapidly increasing demand from member countries for support to implement the Guidelines. The paper emphasizes the importance of continuing the engagement and dialogue through appropriate communications and governance approaches to continue the needed interaction between FAO and its partners that wish to collaborate in the implementation of the programme.
