The paper provides an overview about the factors undermining women’s land ownership in Morocco. It focuses on the legal aspect and exposes the body of regulations governing women’s land ownership, the historical process underlying it accounting for the
colonial legacy and tribal politics. It highlights the legal changes and their impact, since 2010, granting women more access to communal land as well as the role of the Soulaleyyate, a Moroccan women’s land
rights movement, in stirring the reforms. Lastly, it addresses the challenges facing these reforms and future prospects.
